What the N100 Actually Is — and What It Isn't

The N100 is an all-efficiency design: four Gracemont cores, four threads, no performance cores. Intel lists 3.4 GHz as the relevant official clock and does not publish a conventional base-clock figure or a configurable-TDP-down value for this part on its current specification sheet; third-party databases commonly show an idle operating point near 1 GHz, but that is not an official clock target. The 6 W figure is processor base power, not wall consumption. Real N100 boxes measure far higher at the outlet because the board, memory, storage, NICs, firmware and peripherals all draw power. Representative measured examples from independent testing:

The practical consequence for a buyer: there is no reason to purchase a two-module "dual-channel kit" for an N100 box. A single 16 GB module is the sensible target, because Intel's official N100 maximum memory capacity is 16 GB. Some vendors advertise support for a 32 GB SO-DIMM; when they do, treat it as a vendor-validated, out-of-Intel-spec configuration rather than a guaranteed capability, and choose 16 GB as the conservative option unless the exact board documentation confirms otherwise.

With the CPU fixed, the buying decision lives entirely in the hardware around it.

Memory: replaceable or soldered

Cooling

Active cooling with a fan sustains more performance than a passive chassis, at the cost of noise.
